Where do we pick up?

Lots of places! A list of guaranteed departure cities is published
on each trip write-up. If none of these cities are convenient
for you, we'll be glad to help you arrange a pre-overnight
stay at a reduced cost or even free. Complimentary lodging
is available for the night prior to departure on tours of
6 days or longer if we are not able to pick you up within
a 50-mile radius of your home city. Reduced-price lodging
is available at several locations, including but not limited
to Fort Dodge, Ames, Waterloo or Des Moines for any trip.
What sort of hotels
do you use?
Well-rated moderate properties. Our preferred vendors include
Drury Inns, Hampton Inns, Hilton Marriott,
Residence, Courtyard and Fairfield Inns
as well as select Best Western properties. We try to
select locations which offer at least one if not several restaurants
in-house, adjacent or within close, safe walking distance.
What's included?
Transportation aboard our own luxurious motor coaches with extra leg room, lodging
(overnight or longer tours), luggage handling (all tours of
4 days or longer, also on most shorter tours), gratuities
to step-on guides used for city tours, all tickets/admission
fees to attractions listed in our brochure and meals as mentioned.
What is a typical day's schedule?
Departure for a multi-day package is generally at 7:00 AM
on the day of departure. (The first and last days of the trip generally
cover the most miles.) Departure on subsequent days is generally
7:30 AM-9:00 AM and evening arrival at your hotels from 5:00-6:30
PM. On full travel days, breaks (approximately 30 minutes
each) are made mid-morning and mid-afternoon for rest rooms
and refreshments. Lunch stops (1 hr. to 1 hr. 15 min.) are
pre-arranged.
What happens if I have to cancel?
All policies, penalties
and deadlines are clearly stated in each of our publications.
We do our best to refill cancellations from waiting lists,
if available.
What do I do with my
vehicle?
Free indoor car parking is available at our Fort Dodge office.
Arrangements have been made at our other pickup points for
free outdoor parking but we kindly ask that you confirm desired
parking location with management at each pickup point.
What do you mean by "single, double, twin, triple and quad?"
- Single: a room by yourself each night
of the trip. Single rooms usually have one queen or king-sized
bed. (Single rates at NorthLand Travel reflect [less than
or equal to] only the actual up-charge we have to pay for
one person occupying a room. Many hotels price rooms on
a flat-rate per room, causing single occupancy to cost us
200% of double rate.)
- Double: two people sharing a room with
1 bed (usually a queen or king-size)
- Twin: two people sharing a room with
2 beds (usually two double or two queen-size, only occasionally
are they twin-sized beds)
- Triple/quad: three or four persons
sharing a room with 2 beds (usually two double or two queen-size,
occasionally a third bed or rollaway may be available).
What about roommates?
NorthLand Travel will not arbitrarily match you with a roommate,
but if you would like assistance, please let us know. We will
gladly provide name(s) and phone number(s) of others who might
request a roommate for the same trip. We cannot guarantee
nor can we be responsible for successful experiences but we
will do our best for you.
